ASSURANCE
A Thesis by Miranda Hassler
Our nation's veterans have put their lives on the line to fight and protect the rights and freedoms we proudly hold in this country. They face the hardest battles, fight the longest fights, and endure the greatest sacrifices. As a consequence, many veterans are left with lifelong physical, mental, and psychological trauma. This proposal aims to address this consequence in Colorado Springs, a city in Colorado many veterans call home.

The Housing First method, which will be utilized through a transitional housing strategy, focuses on providing safe, reliable housing first and foremost before attempting to treat the underlying issues. Veterans often struggle more and for longer to get back on their feet and become acclimated into society once more. This growing issue in today's society deserves more recognition and dedication in the built world today. With the help of a stable housing environment, a variety of support services, and a carefully crafted design, these veterans can take the first step to begin their healing journey. The architecture will attempt to respond and place an emphasis on the idea of community, camaraderie, and open communication. Doing so will foster a safe and nurturing environment for each individualized healing and growth journey for our nation's heroes.
